As a pro bono initiative, Mr. Rashid Mahar represented Depilex Smileagain Foundation, an organisation committed to providing acid burn victims with medical care, psychological support, and financial and other types of assistance to ensure they have adequate chance to become productive, self-reliant members of the society, to challenge the unregulated sale of acid and other corrosive substances and filed a Constitutional Petition before the Sindh High Court (“SHC”). The SHC heard the petition and directed the Government of Sind to draft and notify the rules to regulate the sale of acid which directions were complied with by the Sindh Government.
We take pride in the impact we’ve made and the lives we’ve touched through our efforts. Every case we take on strengthens our resolve to advocate for equality and support the common good. This work is deeply fulfilling, inspiring us to expand our reach and deepen our impact.
We warmly invite you to join us in this mission. By raising awareness and supporting these essential causes, together we can build stronger, more equitable communities for future generations.
We are committed to using our legal expertise to serve and uplift our community. One of our proudest pro bono efforts involved representing the Depilex Smileagain Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting acid burn victims with medical care, psychological support, vocational training, and financial assistance to help them become self-reliant members of society.
Mr. Rashid Mahar, alongside Barrister Vishal Shamsi and Ms. Anushka Khan, our team filed a Constitutional Petition before the Sindh High Court (SHC) in 2021 to challenge the unregulated sale of acid and corrosive substances, a key factor in acid attacks often linked to gender-based violence. The SHC directed the Government of Sindh to draft and notify regulations, a mandate that led to the approval of the Sindh Regulation for Storage, Sale and Purchase of Acid Rules, 2022.
These rules, enacted under the Poisons Act, 1919, require licensing and detailed record-keeping for acid transactions, aiming to curb accessibility and prevent acid-related crimes. This milestone reflects our dedication to justice and the welfare of vulnerable individuals.
